Disc Golf

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee® The object is to complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, fewest number of throws). A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the “hole,” most commonly an elevated metal basket. As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed. The trees, shrubs and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the “putt” lands in the basket and the hole is completed. Disc golf is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, male and female, regardless of economic status. (Photo courtesy of Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort)

All four area ski resorts offer disc golf in the summer months.

ANGEL FIRE RESORT features a 18 hole disc golf course which utilizes the terrain of our ski mountain for the hazards. Hole One is adjacent to The Summit Haus restaurant at the top of the Chile Express chairlift. The course includes both novice and advanced “tee pads,” perfect for the whole family or players just beginning their disc golf careers. Rentals, course maps and scorecards are available in the base area Ticket Office.

RED RIVER has a 9-hole course on the top of the mountain. NEW this summer, another 9-holes specifically designed for beginners and novice disc-golfers. Wander through the Aspens with your friends and family and enjoy the beautiful views! The Pro-Shop is open located at the Tip Restaurant, just as you unload the Summer Chairlift. Rental discs are available there for only $5, or buy a few Red River Ski Area commemorative discs.

TAOS Test your disc golf skill at 9,000 feet! Located around the base area and on Strawberry Hill this is a great way for the whole family to get together and try to outdo each other. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a an elevated metal basket target which is the "hole," As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket and the hole is completed. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway. Play is FREE and rental discs are available at Taos Ski and Boot at the base of Lift #1. Disc Golf is open daily from late June until Oct 1.
